The role is close to that of a travel agent, working across cultural, linguistic and regulatory boundaries rather than across timetables. Here is what that involves in practice.
What we do
Four things, done thoroughly.
Carry the paperwork with you
We guide the application process itself: entrance requirements, deadlines, and the translation and verification of every document the institution will ask to see.
Prepare the study permit application
We assist with locating and completing the visa application and prepare you for the interview, so you arrive at it knowing what will be asked and why.
Handle tuition payments correctly
We advise on how and when to pay tuition, and where appropriate process those payments on your behalf, so funds arrive in the form the institution expects.
The student journey
Beyond placement.
ICEF has pushed the industry past a simple enquiry to application to enrolment funnel. A student's relationship with their advisor usually continues well after matriculation, particularly where a language barrier limits direct contact with the institution. The modern role runs in four stages.
Pre-enrolment
School fairs, casual conversations and social media, where most students first ask a real question.
Enrolment
Applications, visas, travel and accommodation, arranged so nothing is left to the last week.
During study
Part-time work guidance, ongoing support when something goes wrong, and communication with family at home.
Post-study
Graduation, referrals, progression to further study, and long-term advocacy for the student.
What we do not do
Immigration procedure is not ours to touch.
Important
We do not provide or assist in immigration procedure. In Canada that work belongs only to a lawyer who is a member in good standing of a provincial or federal association, or to a consultant registered with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants.
You will find the official register in our resources, so you can confirm anyone's standing yourself before you hand over a document or a fee.
